Happy Dia de los Muertos everybody. Hope your halloween was rockin' and all that. There were some good hip-hop shows the week before, and there are going to be some good shows in the next week too, all at the Vaudeville Mews in Des Moines:
- New Hampshire rap group Glue is kicking off a triptych of shows at the Mews this Saturday, November 5 at 10 pm. Aeon Gray and Really Real, Rebel's Advocate and the Gutter Bros will open. Cover is $7.
- And then there's the big show we've been looking forward to all October long... Brother Ali and Swollen Members are playing next Monday the 7th at 9 pm. Local Gai Den Gadema will be there too. Tickets are $8 in advance (available online!) or $10 at the door. If you go to one hip-hop show this month--shoot, if you go to one live concert this month--make it this one.
- One more for you--Saint Louis's Goldie will be having a little CD release party at the Mews. Some other guys from StL will be coming up--like five guys whose names aren't all that familiar to me; the Mews has a list up on their site. Anyway, the show will be at 9:30 pm one week from Thursday, on the 10th. Five bucks gets you in the door; make it eight and you'll get a copy of Goldie's new CD too.
That's about all the shows for now. There aren't any reggaeton parties at the Bali in Ames until after Thanksgiving, so you'll have to drive to Des Moines for your fix for a while. Or, of course, just tune it to 88.5 on Wednesday nights...
